Chemistry students’ performance in national competition praised
Students from GMIT recently took part in the Annual Eurachem Analytical Measurement Competition hosted by DIT. The competition is open to second year students studying Laboratory Sciences in Universities and Institutes of Technology across Ireland. Representing GMIT were Abby Bowden, Dublin, Julie Ann Mathews, Offaly, Abby Fitzgerald, Kilkenny, and Aleksandra Skydlo, Galway. “Our students performed extremely well in the competition and are a credit to GMIT", said their lecturers Dr Jean Hughes and Dr Emer Quirke. The Eurachem Analytical Measurement Competition (EAMC) is promoted by Eurachem Ireland, the Heads of Schools of Science and the Council of Directors of the Technological Higher Education Association (Thea). Industry, academic and State laboratories constitute the Reference Committee. The EMAC is designed to raise awareness among student analysts of uncertainty in measurement and the requirement for excellence in analytical skills.
