Exhibition forms part of the Galway International Arts Festival Programme

An exciting exhibition of work by emerging and established artists, designers, craftspeople and film–makers from two GMIT campuses formally opens in the Galway City Museum today (Wednesday 13 July, 2016) and runs until 27 August. The exhibition forms part of the programme of events at this year’s Galway International Arts Festival.

The exhibition titled ‘Creative Wave’ combines the work of students, graduates and staff of GMIT’s Letterfrack campus in Connemara- the Centre for Excellence in Furniture Design and Technology, and GMIT’s Centre for the Creative Arts and Media (CCAM) at Wellpark Road, Galway City. The exhibition presents a style defined by imagination and skill and reflects how international connections and adventures have influenced the development of Galway’s creative culture.

Tom Kenny, of The Kenny Gallery and Bookshop, formally opened the exhibition along with GMIT President, Dr Fergal Barry, GMIT Chairman Des Mahon, GMIT students and staff, and invited guests.

Staff from both campuses have been organising this event for the past six weeks in collaboration with the Galway Museum and Galway International Arts Festival.

Dermot O’Donovan, Head of GMIT Letterfrack, says: “Creative Wave promises to be a truly unique and exciting showcase for GMIT. It is a high quality exhibition and highlights the excellent and innovative student work produced in GMIT, the links and progression with industry and the international connectedness of our programmes. Many of those exhibiting have won national awards in their disciplines.”

Dr. Paddy Tobin, Head of the Centre for Creative Arts & Media, GMIT, says:” Creative Wave  demonstrates the beautiful high quality work and the success of our students and graduates. It also reflects the energy around the upsurge in creative enterprise and international activity of GMIT graduates. The range and depth of creative talent on display from artists, designers and film-makers bodes very well for the future.”

The show runs until 27 August, 10am to 5pm (closed Mondays). Sunday opening is from 12 noon to 5pm. Admission is free.
