GMIT hosts photography exhibition 'Germany through my lens'

A collective photography exhibition involving Galway’s two third-level colleges, Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) and the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG), opened in GMIT’s Centre for the Creative Arts & Media (CCAM) this evening (Wednesday, 18 November).

The photographs are the work of students from GMIT and NUIG under a collection titled: ‘Germany through my Lens. Facets of a fascinating country. The students were invited by Professor Hans-Walter Schmidt-Hannisa of NUIG, and Honorary Consul, and Dr Jenny Farrell, GMIT, to submit their unique take on Germany.

GMIT languages lecturer, Dr Jenny Farrell, says: “The outcome is a remarkable and very personal image of a country whose language and culture these students from all over the world have studied and enjoyed”.

“The collection bears poetic testimony to the immeasurable cultural value of international exchanges and experience. The photographs reflect a myriad of facets of the German past and present and the exhibition is truly worth seeing.”

The exhibition is supported by the German Embassy and a representative of the embassy will award prizes to the three winners. It is open to the public and will run until Friday, 27 November. The exhibition will be on display again in NUIG in January.
