GMIT unveils new courses at Galway campus Open Morning (6 May)

Biomedical Engineering, Culinary and Gastronomic Science, Agricultural Engineering and more

A range of exciting new degrees in Biomedical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, and Culinary and Gastronomic Science, and other disciplines, will be unveiled at GMIT’s final Open Morning taking place at the Galway (Dublin Road) campus and the Centre for Creative Arts & Media (CCAM) this Saturday, 6 May, running from 10am to 12.30pm.

Staff and students will be on hand to answer questions about these and other new programmes such as Early Childhood Education and Care, International Hotel Management, Public Health Nutrition, International Tourism Management, and all courses in the Galway and Mayo campuses.

A shuttle bus will run between the two Galway city campuses during the morning. A special talk on CAO Change of Mind Advice will take place at 11am in the Galway campus, Theatre 995, and a SUSI talk on the grant system takes place at 12 noon also in Theatre 995.

Michael Hannon, VP Academic Affairs & Registrar, says “This is a very important Open Day for all our CAO applicants who may have a query on their CAO choice or who may wish to find out about one of our several new programmes recently launched by the Institute. In previous years we note that up to 25% of our applicants change their mind before July 1st so I encourage as many applicants as possible to visit us this Saturday during our final Open Day this year.”



Half-hour intro sessions commence at 10am in Theatres 1000 and 996/5/4, as follows:



10am (Theatre 994) - Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Computer & Electronic Engineering, Electrical Services and Automation;



10am (Theatre 1000) - Science, Marine Biology & Biopharmaceutical, Chemical & Pharmaceutical, Physics, Medical, Forensic, and Agriculture and Environmental Management, Sport and Exercise Science, Public Health Nutrition;



10.30am (995) - Computing, Software Development, ICT, Digital Media;



10.30am (994) - Business Management, Marketing, HR, Agri-business, Economics;



11am (994) - Business Information Systems & Accountancy;



11am (996) – College of Tourism & Arts courses in Hotel Management, Culinary Arts, Event Management & PR, Retail, Tourism, Heritage Studies, Art & Design, Film & Documentary, Design including the three new courses (Culinary & Gastronomic Science, International Hotel Management, International Tourism Management);



11am (1000) – Mayo campus courses in Business, Humanities, Technology, Nursing, Health Sciences, Social Care including the new Early Childhood Education and Care;



11.30am (995) – Letterfrack campus courses in Furniture Design, Manufacture, Wood Technology and Education;



11.30am (1000) – Building & Civil Engineering courses in Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying & Construction Economics, Construction Management;



12 noon  (1000) -  Mechanical and Industrial Engineering courses in Agricultural Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering including the new Agri Engineering and Biomedical Engineering courses;



12 noon (996) – Mountbellew Campus courses in Agriculture.
