Irish and international employers keen to recruit GMIT Letterfrack students

“At Ganter we place great value on graduates of GMIT Letterfrack” – Ganter Interior GmbH

MIT Letterfrack recently hosted a very successful Careers Day (Thursday 15 October) with Irish and international employers lining up to meet  students, graduates and staff.

Employers such as MJM Group, Ganter Interior GmbH, Woodcom, Galtee Wood and Veneer, and Andrew Ryan Traditional and Modern Furniture gave presentations to students throughout the day outlining opportunities for recruitment and work placements as well as trends in the furniture and wood products industries in Ireland and overseas.

Organisations supporting start-ups were represented at the event, and a number of graduates including Shane Tubrid from New Ross, Wexford, shared their start-up success stories. Activities also included workshops on CVs, interview preparation and having an affective online presence.

Ganter Interior GmBH specialise in the turn key solutions to high end shop interiors such as Porsche, Dior, Burberry, Tiffany, in capital cities across the world. Cathal Hayes, Project Manager and a graduate of GMIT Letterfrack, says: “At Ganter we place great value on graduates of GMIT Lertterfrack to be able to understand and appreciate quality, to be flexible and adapt quickly to ever changing engineering and project management challenges.”

Maureen Kearney, Human Resources Manager, MJM Group, which specialises in the fit-out of Cruise Liners and super yachts worldwide, says: “MGM Group have been working with GMIT Letterfrack for the past ten years. We take students on work placement each year and also seek to employ graduates. We feel that the graduates from GMIT Letterfrack have excellent knowledge and skills that suit our company both in Ireland and overseas.”

Paul Leamy, lecturer, GMIT Letterfrack and event co-ordinator “Many of the companies came to GMIT Letterfrack to recruit our graduates and establish contacts with our final year students, but also to take students on five month work placements which commence in January. Companies are seeking graduates with skills relevant to modern manufacturing environments with a strong focus on flexible and service orientated projects.”

“It’s a great time to be entering the jobs market in our sector. The students have really relevant and transferrable skills and knowledge which are well suited to the needs of industry.  We have had a very large increase in companies contacting us in the past twelve months and any graduate looking for work is certainly finding employment right now”.
