Exciting new event will focus on 'Dressing for Success'

According to research, first impressions are formed within the first 17 seconds of meeting someone. This year’s GMIT Graduate Careers Fair, taking place on Monday, 5 October (12 noon to 3pm), will feature an exciting new event called ‘Dressing for Success’. Over 80 organisations are participating in the Fair this year.

 

‘Dressing for Success’ is for final year students and is aimed at giving them confidence and encouragement during job interviews and networking events. Local clothing stores Hanley & Co Menswear and Fusion Fashion are kindly sponsoring this event which will include a brief fashion show presented by GMIT students.

 

The 80 organisations signed up for the Careers Fair represent sectors such as business, finance, IT, hospitality, the retail sector and the construction industry.These include Intel, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Medtronic, Jameson, Boston Scientific, SAP, Musgrave Group, Grant Thornton, EY, Ericsson, Cisco and many more.  A number of companies will give presentations on the day seeking to network with students from all disciplines.





A number of third-level colleges will have stands at the fair, providing information on postgraduate studies both in Ireland and abroad. GMIT’s Career Office will also host CV Clinics and interview techniques presentations. Following the success of their visit to the Fair last year (2014), Valeo Vision Systems are again bringing a test vehicle to the college so that students will see innovative technology in action.

Andrew McGlynn, Software Engineer, Cisco, says: The GMIT Careers Fair allows us to discover the very talented and skilled students who are studying in GMIT. It allows us to meet with the students and discuss the Graduate and Internship programmes we offer each year.”

 

Bridie Killoran, GMIT Careers Officer, says, “This year we have seen an increase in the number of Business and Accounting companies wanting to meet our students.  Overall there is an increase in the number of organisations seeking to be part of the event.”

They are particularly looking forward to the ‘Dressing for Success’ event. With so many changing styles and cultural influences it’s not always easy to get it right, and this event aims to point our students and graduates in the right direction”
