Software & Electronic Engineering student Patricia Cahill wins Intel Award
A third year student on the B.Eng. Software and Electronic Engineering programme, Patricia Cahill from Bullaun, Loughrea, has scooped an Intel Women in Technology Award for academic excellence. Patricia was one of eight final year students from colleges around Ireland presented with this award at a special ceremony in Dublin recently.
This is the sixth year of the Women in Technology programme which presents awards to a select number of high achieving students who have recently graduated from technical disciplines at Institutes of Technology across the country. The programme aims to encourage a new generation of high-achieving women to take up the challenge of a career in science and technology. It forms part of a wider focus by Intel on empowering girls and women by fostering educational opportunities and encouraging women to participate, prosper, and lead in the global economy.
Natasha Rohan, lecturer, Dept of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, says: "Many thanks to Intel for their continued support of the 'Women in Technology' programme and huge congratulations to Patricia on her achievements. Patricia is graduating with a first class honours degree having attained excellent standards in both her project and exam work."
Speaking about the Women in Technology programmes at the presentation event, Sarah Sexton, Intel Public Affairs, said “At Intel we have a strong commitment to diversity and recognise that the world in which our business operates today is one of increased dynamism where women are key consumers and key contributors of valuable perspectives and ideas. We are delighted to once again have the opportunity to encourage more young women to pursue careers in science and technology, as well as giving them first hand experience of the career opportunities at Intel”.
