Third year art students hold 'Distil' exhibition (23 Feb - 2 March, CCAM)

Exhibition to be opened by Margaret Flannery, GUH Arts Director in CCAM, 23 Feb, 6pm

‘Distil’ is the title of this year’s exhibition of work to be presented to the public by third year students from the Art and Design programme in GMIT. The exhibition will be showing in the Long Gallery at the GMIT Centre for Creative Arts and Media (CCAM), Monivea Road, Galway from Thursday 23 February to Thursday 2 March 2017.

Margaret Flannery, Arts Director, Galway University Hospital Trust, will formally open the exhibition at a reception in CCAM at 6 pm on Thursday 23 February. Admission is free and all are welcome.

The exhibition will showcase the work of fifty students in the disciplines of painting, ceramics, textiles, sculpture and print.

“The students have been busy all year working in their various disciplines and are looking forward to sharing their efforts with their peers and members of the public,” says Petra Nelissen, lecturer and level 7 textile coordinator. “Distil promises to be a colourful, creative and innovative exhibition of Contemporary Art and Design showcasing the Irish artist of the future.”

GMIT’s Centre for the Creative Arts & Media (CCAM) has been delivering design and creative arts education for the past 42 years and has responded to the creative call to action over the last few years with the development of new programmes , increased industry engagement and an integrated approach to the development of ‘Creative Pathways’ for its students and graduates.

Programmes have multiple pathways specialisms including Film & Documentary (Audio Production, Cinematography, Editing, Screenwriting, Production Design, 4D Design) and Contemporary Art (Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture and Digital Media). The new BA in Design also responds directly to the industry requirements and provides specialisms in Graphic Design & Illustration, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Industrial Design and Animation and Games Design. GMIT also offers an MA in Creative Practice which introduces another new dimension to the progression pathways available in the sector.
