Pathology in Practice
Description
This module will provide the learner with an understanding of the integrated role of cellular pathology, clinical biochemistry, haematology, clinical and transplant immunology, medical microbiology and blood transfusion in the diagnosis, treatment and management of disease and disease surveillance and be able to apply to practice.
Learning Outcomes
Discuss and critically evaluate the role of the laboratory in the context of patient care
Demonstrate a critical understanding of biological sciences, human development and normal functioning of the human body and the related physiological, immunological, biochemical and molecular sciences
Discuss the pathophysiology and clinical manifestations of a variety of disorders that require laboratory investigations
Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the diagnostic tools used in the clinical laboratory
Critically analyse, interpret and communicate laboratory results as appropriate for a clinical setting and advise on further testing as appropriate.
Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the principles of quality assurance and regulation in the clinical laboratory
