Relativity, Electromagnetism and Quantum
Description
This module provides the learner with specialised knowledge of: the physics of electricity and magnetism and its synthesis in Maxwell's equations; the development of the quantum theory of radiation and matter and its application to the description of atomic structure and spectra; special relativity, theory, applications and consequences.
Learning Outcomes
Explain the principles of electricity, magnetism, special relativity and quantum physics.
Explain the theories of electricity and magnetism that lead to the derivation of Maxwell's equations.
Apply physical principles to explain phenomena relating to electricity, magnetism, atoms and particles.
Obtain analytical and numerical solutions for a range of problems relating to electricity, magnetism, quantum and atomic physics, including relativistic considerations.
Select and use appropriate physical principles to describe and explain physical observations and measurements.
Choose appropriate mathematical and computational techniques, and use them to model and interpret physical phenomena.
