Higher Certificate in Arts in Community Development and Youth Work
Overview
The purpose of the award is multifaceted and aims to provide learners with a specialised education in Community Development and Youth Work. The successful graduate will be a professional autonomous community development and/or youth worker, equipped with skills, knowledge and competencies to work within a wide range of statutory and non-statutory organisations and agencies.
The graduate as a critical thinker will be able to engage and work with diverse groups to consider factors that are social, cultural, economic, sustainable, technological and political at local, societal and global level that impact upon people’s daily lives. The reflective graduate, by applying human rights principles, and a knowledge of empowerment and through collectively working with others will set out to promote social change and equality. If they wish, the graduate will be able to pursue further academic studies.
Continuous Professional Development
In addition to the Level 6, 7 and 8 programme, for those already engaged in the Community Development sector a separate Continuous Professional Development, an Introduction to Community Development is available. This is a one- year part-time programme. Leaners are expected to attend the Mayo Campus for 1 half-day per week and complete 8 hours practice per week.

Group Dynamics and Development 11.15 am– 1.00pm
Semester Two
Sociology for Community Development and Youth Work 9.00am - 10.45am
Introduction to Social Policy 11.45 am – 1.00pm
